Graham Mortensen, a recipient of Technical d’Honneur from Auckland, NZ passed away suddenly. His untimely passing has left his family and countless admirers overwhelmed with profound sorrow. His absence leaves a void that we cannot easily fill.

The legacy of Mortensen, as a remarkable racer and a wonderful soul, will continue to shine brightly in the hearts and memories of all who were fortunate enough to be touched by his presence.

Who was Graham Mortensen?

Graham’s involvement in motorsport began in the early 1970s, nearly five decades ago. Graham, who was always eager to lend a hand, began by serving as a flag and pitlane marshal. He then filled nearly every volunteer position before rising to the position of senior Clerk of the Course for several events and, finally, a steward.

In 2022, Graham was named Clerk of the Course D’Honneur by MotorSport New Zealand. He was awarded for exceptional service to MotorSport New Zealand’s Clerk of Course Department. Those who have shown extraordinary dedication, leadership, and contributions to the smooth running of motorsport events are frequently recognized with this kind of award.

Graham at Auckland Car Club:

Graham was a hidden gem of the Auckland Car Club, where he devoted a significant portion of his time to performing administrative tasks for the group.

He held several terms as a member of the club’s Executive Committee. Graham’s contribution to the club is such that he was inducted into the Auckland Car Club Roll of Honour and is a life member of the club.

Graham Mortensen was one of the unsung heroes of the Auckland Car Club, working behind the scenes for many years in the club’s administration and at various motorsport events.

Graham served as an official in a variety of capacities whenever assistance was required. Eventually, he was appointed to higher positions at rallies, auto races, and the club’s Executive Committee, where he served as Vice-President.
