The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that Reid’s vehicle was traveling north on 4 Oaks Ranch Road when it failed to negotiate a curve, striking an embankment and ending up submerged in the river.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a missing person report for Reid around 12:30 p.m. on December 22, 2023, after he failed to report for work.

Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene following reports of a vehicle in the water and tragically confirmed Reid’s identity. A Justice of the Peace pronounced Reid deceased at the scene later that evening.

Captain Joey Jacobs of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that investigations at the site indicated the vehicle lost control on a curve, leading to the collision with the embankment and subsequent submersion in the Neches River.

The discovery of the vehicle was made by friends and family members who were searching for Reid along his expected commute to work. Following the distressing find, a dive team from Port Arthur was dispatched to confirm the vehicle’s association with Nathan Reid.
