Paul Hobson Obituary, Death Cause – On December 12, 2023, the world lost a remarkable individual, Dr. Paul Alexander Robert Hobson, Professor Emeritus of Economics, aged 70, of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Paul’s life was a tapestry of adventure, dedication to education, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.

From a young age, Paul displayed an adventurous spirit that would define his life. At the age of 8, he embarked on the adventure of attending Methodist College in Belfast as a boarder. During these formative years, he cherished the time spent with his grandparents, Captain Robert John and Helen (Marshall) Hobson, who played a significant role in shaping his character and values.

At 16, Paul and his family embarked on another significant adventure, moving to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The move marked a pivotal point in his life, setting the stage for his academic pursuits and future endeavors. Paul’s formal education began at York University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in economics in 1974. He continued his academic journey at Queen’s University, obtaining a master’s degree in 1976 and a PhD in 1982.

In Toronto, Paul forged a lasting friendship with Roger “Lad” Pilkey, fondly known as “Uncle Lad” by Paul’s three daughters. Their strong bond endured over the years, transcending provincial boundaries. Despite living in different provinces, they consistently showed up for each other’s milestones, creating cherished memories that lasted until Lad’s untimely passing in 2020.

Paul is survived by his beloved daughters, Edey (Matthew Twiddy) Hobson of Charlottetown, Jane (Kenneth Calway) Hobson Calway of Bridgewater, Elizabeth (Alexander Warner) Hobson of Waverley, and their mother Mary Pritchard; his grandchildren, Devany and Peter Twiddy, Winslow and Harper Calway and MacLean Warner; his sisters, Fiona Hobson and Mary McPhee, both of Ontario; and his many nieces and nephews.
