Shelby Barker Axsom was born on October 18, 1940, in Eden (Draper), North Carolina, to her late parents, Jake Barker and Mary Belle Wilson. As the youngest of thirteen siblings, Shelby grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her the values of love, compassion, and resilience. She was a devoted member of the Immanuel Friends Meeting, where she found solace and community.
Career and Retirement
After dedicating over thirty years of her life to Fieldcrest Cannon, Shelby decided to embark on a new chapter by becoming a caretaker for elderly residents in her community. Her nurturing nature and ability to bring joy and laughter to others made her a beloved figure among those she cared for. Shelby’s retirement allowed her to pursue her passion for helping others and making a positive impact on their lives.
Memorial Service and Burial
A memorial service to honor Shelby’s life will be held on November 25, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Rev.
