Shelly leaves behind a legacy of love, connection, and joy. Her daughters, Laurie Schleicher and Heidi Walczak, along with their families, cherish the memories of a woman whose nurturing spirit touched the lives of many. Shelly’s faithful dog, Winnie, remains a loyal companion in her absence.
As the oldest girl among ten siblings, Shelly assumed the role of “Mother Hen” throughout her life. Beyond her immediate family, she extended her caring influence to nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and countless others who sought her guidance. Shelly’s warmth, sense of humor, and mentorship endeared her to colleagues, crafting friends, sons-in-law, and friends, creating a circle of love that extended far and wide.
Shelly’s passion for crafting, particularly handmaking cards, brought her joy and connected her with her daughter Heidi. Crafting weekends and events across the Midwest were a source of shared pleasure. She excelled at Scrabble, instilling a love for the game in her daughters, Laurie and Heidi.
A lover of nature, Shelly delighted in setting up a daily buffet for wildlife outside her home office, fostering a connection with chipmunks, squirrels, ducks, birds, bunnies, and deer. Her gregarious and gentle nature made her the life of the party, the heart of the family, and eventually, everybody’s cherished “Grammy.”
Shelly’s family will lay her to rest at Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, IL, alongside her beloved husband John. In accordance with Shelly’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service. Instead, the family will hold a private celebration of life.
