William Tarrence Obituary, Death – On December 14, 2023, the world lost a remarkable soul, William “Bill” Tarrence, aged 69, of Old Shawneetown, IL. Born on June 23, 1954, in Ridgeway, IL, to William and Fern (Randall) Tarrence, Bill left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His passing occurred in Sturgis, KY. Bill’s life was characterized by a deep sense of duty and service.

A proud U.S. Army Veteran, Bill’s commitment to his country was only surpassed by his devotion to his family and friends. A beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, Bill’s warmth and generosity were felt by all who crossed his path. His spiritual journey led him to the Apostolic Holiness Church of Sturgis, KY, where he found solace and community.
Beyond his spiritual life, Bill wore many hats throughout his professional journey. From coal miner to welder, chief engineer, and riverboat port captain pilot, Bill’s diverse skills and experiences reflected a life well-lived. Bill’s passions extended beyond his professional pursuits. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he found joy in the open road. His love for playing pool and the simple pleasure of preparing dinners for family and friends endeared him to many.
Bill is survived by his present wife, Tamberly Tarrence of Sturgis, KY, and his previous wife, Vicky Tarrence of Maryville, IL. His legacy continues through his three sons: Spencer Tarrence of Highland, IL; Blaine Tarrence and Mack Thornton, Jr. of Sturgis, KY; two daughters: Rachel Tarrence of Maryville, IL; Blessing Bonefield of Spearfish, South Dakota; and five grandchildren: Eden Chitwood of Chicago, IL; Gavin Tarrence of Maryville, IL; Alice Bonefield and William Bonefield of Spearfish, South Dakota.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three sisters: Donna Yates, Mary Curry, and Linda Hart. A visitation to celebrate Bill’s life will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown, IL. The interment at Callicott Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Apostolic Holiness Church in Sturgis, KY. Contributions can be made at the funeral home or church, honoring Bill’s memory and the impact he had on the lives of those around him. May he find eternal peace, and may his spirit live on in the cherished memories of his loved ones.
